When Bo Bichette returned from injury and played second base in the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays last season, it seemed to give the longtime shortstop more defensive versatility heading into free agency.
Little did anyone know that a third position could be a possibility for Bichette.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Bichette is expected to play third base for the New York Mets after agreeing to a three-year, $126-million deal on Friday.
Bichette, 27, never has started at third base in his seven-year MLB career. He had made all his starts at shortstop or designated hitter before switching to second base in last year's World Series.
Bichette was a lower-ranked defensive shortstop in recent years, making his transition to the hot corner an interesting one.
